Take advantage of system “X” after quarantine

The “x” system, one of the phenomena of human nature and cataloged as a reaction effect to interpersonal interactions.

The habit of washing our hands has been developed in large part by the fear of becoming infected, we have been motivated by an external factor. It is a barrier (both physical and neurological) that we put before the situation, but there were already barriers like these before the quarantine, the social barriers. We have developed communication barriers, searching and finding shelters in our smartphones, however, when this barrier is broken, a reaction system comes into play whose behavior depends on the other person interacting. Neuroscientists call it the “x” system.

System “x”

Both on a physical and biological level, we react to people, whether we know them or not. And they also react to us. The surprising thing about this system is that the interaction does not have to be face-to-face. One of the main responsible for this automatic system is the amygdala and the hypothalamus. The “x” system is an automatic mechanism that is controlled by the limbic brain, do not try to stop it, it will have to be accepted and acted upon. How to do that?.

Various scientific studies support various techniques to cope with these reactions that can be exhausting and even precursor to mental states of anxiety in interpersonal interactions.

  1. Begin by increasing the tone of your voice.

A study conducted at the end of the 20th century, examined and related the tone of voice with the confidence of the participants, the study suggested that the confidence of a sender in communication can be interfered with the tone of voice of people.

2. Befriend the silences.

The same 20th century study, led by Kimble and Seidel suggested that the speed at which we speak can also impact our confidence, and therefore reduce our anxiety, before, during, and even after communication. So show others that you are not afraid of being interrupted, and by the way, you also show your primitive brain (and everyone’s brain, it’s not offensive).

3. Do like a bear. Open up.

We have always known that the brain reigns in people’s behavior, but until relatively recently we have realized that behavior also reigns in the brain. We can trick our brains.

Works like Amy Cuddy’s have shown that positive hormonal changes can emerge in people who adopt positions of expansion and comfort, as if they were not afraid of being attacked by predators, the brain believes that assumption and ends up coming true, showing the internal chemical changes.
